Yvonne Mosler and Cornelius Sternkopf were attacked while putting up election posters. The perpetrators were arrested by the police.

The Green Party politician attacked in Dresden on Tuesday evening was Yvonne Mosler. The 47-year-old was traveling together with her party colleague Cornelius Sternkopf and two media teams from Deutsche Welle and the "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung", the Dresden Greens announced on Wednesday. Mosler and Sternkopf are the two leading Green Party candidates for the city council in constituency 11 (Gorbitz/Cossebaude). According to the statement, they had set up an information stand at Merianplatz in the Gorbitz district with campaign helpers and then made their way to Amalie-Dietrich-Platz to put up posters there.

On Tuesday evening, the police reported that a 47-year-old Green politician had been attacked by two people while putting up election posters in Dresden. Shortly afterwards, police officers identified a 24-year-old and a 34-year-old as suspects. A police spokesperson did not want to provide any further information on the identity of the attackers at this time. The male attacker pushed the politician aside at around 6.50 p.m., insulted and threatened her, it was said. He is also said to have torn down two election posters. The 24-year-old woman reportedly joined in and spat at the politician. The police confronted the two in the immediate vicinity.

The 34-year-old German is being investigated for assault, threats, insults and damage to property and the 24-year-old German woman for assault. Because the two had allegedly previously stood with a group from which the Hitler salute was shown, they are also being investigated for using symbols of unconstitutional organizations. Both suspects remain at large, the police spokesman said.
