The family of former patron Wernze returns its shares to Lok Leipzig. The club says thank you in style.

The family of former patron Franz-Josef Wernze has returned the shares in regional league soccer club 1. FC Lok Leipzig still held by the family. The entrepreneur, who died in 2023, would have been 77 years old today and supported the club with many campaigns and financial aid. With the return of the shares, "1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig, Verein für Bewegungsspiele e.V. is now the sole shareholder of SpielbetriebsGmbH", the Leipzig club announced.

Wernze, who was unanimously appointed an honorary member by the general meeting in 2020, had helped to renovate the hall on the training ground. The club's executive committee has now decided to rename this hall the "Franz-Josef-Wernze-Halle" in order to create a lasting legacy.

The regional league club missed out on promotion to the third division in the relegation matches at the beginning of June and will make another attempt in the regional league next season.
