SC Magdeburg is keeping up the pressure on the top duo in the German Handball League, Füchse Berlin and MT Melsungen. The defending champions won their last catch-up game at bottom club 1. VfL Potsdam 37:23 (18:8). Magdeburg remains third, Potsdam is thus finally relegated. Magdeburg's best scorers were Omar Magnusson with eleven goals and Gisli Kristjansson with six.
The visitors took the initiative from the outset and went straight into the lead. They were very compact in defense, but also had an easy game against very harmless hosts. SCM keeper Sergey Hernandez had no problems with many embarrassing shots.
Magdeburg remained in command right to the end
In attack, Felix Claar and Magnussen were able to play almost undisturbed. Coach Bennet Wiegert could even afford to call a timeout in the 22nd minute simply because Kristjansson's shoe had broken. The lead reached double digits for the first time just one minute before the break.
After the break, however, Potsdam put up more resistance, improved its pace and scored more often. And at the other end, the visitors also missed a few shots. As a result, the lead did not grow by much, but Magdeburg had everything under control until the end and easily secured victory.
