Dynamo Dresden confidently handled its first-round task in the DFB Cup. The second-division soccer team defeated Regionalliga side Westfalia Ryhnern 6-0 (5-0) on Sunday, avoiding an early exit in the first round—unlike last season. For fourth-division side Rhynern, on the other hand, it was their first-ever appearance in the DFB Cup—and, at the same time, a harsh lesson in sportsmanship.
Dresden controlled the match from the start, dominating with great enthusiasm and proving efficient in front of the net: Jonas Sterner (8th minute), Niklas Hauptmann (17th), Vincent Vermeij (30th), Ben Bobzien (34th minute), and Kaan Inanoglu (39th minute) had already sealed the victory by halftime.
Shortly after the break, Robert Wagner (54th minute) scored his first goal in a cup match, making it the sixth goal in a one-sided contest. Although the visitors subsequently took some of the pace out of the game, they remained in control with a calm demeanor. The Rhynern team, with former Bundesliga pro Marco Stiepermann on the bench, had very little possession throughout the match and was unable to create any real scoring chances.
