1. FC Magdeburg advanced effortlessly to the second round of the DFB Cup. The second-division soccer team defeated Oberliga club Bahlinger SC 4-0 (3-0). Goal scorers Mateusz Zukowski (5th and 44th minutes) and Falko Michel (31st and 77th) scored the goals for coach Petrik Sander’s team in front of 3,545 spectators at the Kaiserstuhlstadion.
The South Baden Cup champion proved to be a gracious host. First, the stadium sound system played “Heja, heja – Wir sind vom FCM,” and around 800 Magdeburg fans sang along cheerfully. Then Bahlingen’s center back, Laurin Tost, handed out a gift even on the bumpy turf when he missed the ball after five minutes of play. Zukowski, lurking behind him, gratefully finished the play.
