Bundesliga club FSV Mainz 05 will lodge an administrative complaint with the Federal Court of the German Football Association regarding the scheduling of the DFB Cup match at Dynamo Dresden (August 18). This is the last instance in which a postponement of the match to another day can be decided, as the 05 team announced. Previously, an application to postpone the match and the subsequent appeal against this decision had been rejected.
The reason for this is that FSV have to play the first leg of the Conference League play-offs just three days later. The draw will take place on August 4. The matches in Dresden and in the Conference League would be the first two of five scheduled competitive matches for Mainz in a period of less than two weeks.
Mainz hopes for a decision in the interests of German football
"In principle, the DFB Cup matches should be played in the period from 15 to 18 August. However, due to our special situation, we hope that the Federal Court will follow our arguments and, in this exceptional case, agree to scheduling outside this period in the interests of German soccer as a whole," said Stefan Hofmann, club and board chairman of FSV.
Mainz had already voiced criticism in June, after the cup dates had been set. According to FSV, the DFB justified the scheduling with the binding requirements of the local security authorities. The "Canaletto", Germany's largest city festival, will take place in Dresden on the weekend of August 15-17.
