Cemetery Fees: Where Prices Are Rising in Saxony
Cemetery fees in the major Saxon cities of Leipzig and Dresden will remain stable in 2027. In Chemnitz, however, the city expects a moderate increase. The three cities provided this information in response to an inquiry. In Chemnitz, the new fee schedule has yet to be finalized. However, the city has already announced that it expects usage fees for graves to rise by about two to three percent. Currently, according to the fee schedule for Chemnitz cemeteries, a ground-level row grave in Chemnitz costs 423 euros for a 20-year usage period. A burial plot for urn burials costs 354 euros for the same period. In addition, there is a basic cemetery fee. “As things stand, no adjustments to the fee schedule are planned for 2027,” a spokesperson from Leipzig stated. In Dresden, too, no increase in cemetery fees is expected for the coming year. Fees there will not be recalculated until early 2028. “Cemetery fees increase regularly, but not across the board,” a spokesperson from Dresden explained. Currently, the usage fees for a row grave in Dresden amount to 780.15 euros for 20 years, according to a spokesperson for the state capital. An urn row grave costs 662.49 euros for the same usage period. In Leipzig, according to the fee schedule, a ground row grave costs 415.00 euros for 20 years and an urn row grave costs 208.00 euros. According to the Federal Association of German Funeral Directors, cemetery fees must be paid in Germany so that relatives can obtain the right to use a grave site. The term of use is generally 20 years, although this period may vary depending on the type of grave. Copyright 2026, dpa (www.dpa.de). All rights reservedNo fee increases in Dresden or Leipzig
