The film adaptation of the novel "Impatience of the Heart" by Lauro Cress has won the main prize at the Neisse Film Festival in the border triangle of Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic. The German director's film, based on Stefan Zweig's work of the same name, was awarded the Neisse Fish sculpture and 10,000 in prize money on Saturday evening in Zgorzelec. The jury had to choose between nine feature films in the competition - three each from Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.
The award for the best acting performance went to Giulio Brizzi for his performance in "Impatience of the Heart". Aneta Grňáková was awarded the prize for best production design for her work on the Czech-Slovak feature film "Murder" by Adam Martinec. Maria Zbąska received the Neisse Fish for best screenplay for the Polish feature film "To nie mój film" ("This is not my film"), which she also directed.
Best documentary for Polish-German production
Best documentary was awarded to the Polish-German production "Listy z Wilczej" ("Letters from Wolf Street") by Arjun Talwar. The jury saw it as a "personal film journey by the director through the trials and tribulations of Polish society". He had conducted conversations with local residents and random passers-by on a Warsaw street, which "reflect both curiosity and openness towards other people, as well as the darkest xenophobic grievances in Europe", as it was put.
Several other awards were also presented. Since last Tuesday, the tri-national film festival has presented more than 100 films in three competitions and various film series in 19 cinemas along the Neisse and on both sides of the border. The program was accompanied by discussion rounds, a reading, concerts and workshops. Next year, the Neisse Film Festival will take place from May 26 to 31.
