The rock band Pankow, one of the most influential East German formations, will be leaving the stage in Dresden on Sunday (20:00). The farewell tour of the band, founded in 1981, began in Cottbus in mid-January and led through all the federal states in eastern Germany. "We want to celebrate the separation (...) and consciously be there with spirit at the end," singer André Herzberg announced the tour last year.
With their music, the men around Herzberg really stirred up the GDR cultural scene in the 1980s. They sang about characters such as "Paule Panke" or the love-hungry "Inge Pawelczik" and took a critical look at life in the workers' and farmers' state. With the song "Langeweile", Pankow delivered a swan song to the GDR at the beginning of 1989. After reunification, the band had already announced their departure. But after a break of several years, the musicians returned in 2004. Now they are finally calling it a day.
