Leipzig/Halle Airport suspended flight operations overnight after an unidentified flying object and a suspicious item were found. According to a statement from the Leipzig Police Department, several aircraft, including a passenger plane, were diverted. The police described it as a “security-related incident.”
The northern section has been back in operation since the early morning hours. The southern runway remains closed for the investigation.
The suspicious object was reportedly discovered on the airport’s south runway and examined by the Federal Police. An explosive-detection robot was also deployed for this purpose.
According to a police spokesperson, investigators are determining the extent to which the two incidents are related. According to the report, there is no immediate danger.
