The renovation of the Lichtenberg dam in the district of Central Saxony continues to make progress. Following the start of construction on the dam crest in May, the scaffolding for the extraction tower has now been installed, as announced by the state dam administration. This means that the renovation of the Lichtenberg dam's trademark can now begin. The old fiberglass-plastic coatings will be removed and the outer hydraulic steel structure renewed. The old dam gates and rods will also be dismantled.
The Lichtenberg dam has been in operation for around 50 years and is to be renovated at a cost of around 30 million euros. The dam reportedly supplies around 200,000 people in the greater Freiberg area with drinking water.
