No coronavirus economic aid will be reclaimed in Saxony for the time being. The Ministry of Economic Affairs has arranged for the Sächsische Aufbaubank (SAB) to temporarily suspend the reclaims with immediate effect, according to a statement. This concerns the "Federal Emergency Aid Grant" program and the federal bridging aid.
Many entrepreneurs had approached him in recent weeks about the fact that the repayment claims were a major challenge in the current situation, said Minister of Economic Affairs Dirk Panter (SPD). "Existential fears have arisen."
As far as legally possible, the aim is to avoid unnecessary hardship for entrepreneurs. According to the information provided, the details still need to be clarified in the coming days. "For now, the moratorium gives those affected some breathing space," said Panter.
Changed conditions and clear rules under discussion
According to the information provided, legal changes to the federal programs are not possible, but SAB and the ministry are examining "concrete options". For example, changed conditions for repayments and clearer rules on the cases in which subsidies do not have to be repaid are being discussed. No new repayment claims will be pursued until all outstanding issues have been finally clarified. There will also be no reminders for the time being.
A total of around 2.9 billion euros was paid out to almost 98,000 recipients in Saxony as part of the programs - this corresponds to almost three quarters of Saxon companies. Reclaims are currently being processed in around 27,600 cases, and 29,000 further reclaims are expected. In more than 49,000 cases, the processes have already been completed.
