In Berlin and the surrounding area, many people are familiar with the König car dealership. The company, which has been in business for decades, has now filed for bankruptcy.

The König car dealership chain has filed for bankruptcy. The Berlin-based company submitted the petition to the Charlottenburg Local Court, according to a statement from the court. The court has now appointed an insolvency administrator and established a provisional creditors’ committee—which includes representatives from Renault, Stellantis Bank, Euler Hermes, and the Federal Employment Agency.

According to its own information, Autohaus König operates approximately 80 locations in Germany. The company was founded in Berlin in 1966 and grew through a repair shop and used-car sales. “Since the 1980s, Autohaus König has been an official Renault dealer, which is what really set the car dealership group’s success story in motion,” the company’s website states. The company operates many locations, particularly in eastern Germany. Amid the crisis in the German auto industry, the automotive retail sector has also recently suffered a decline in sales.
