Tourism Minister Barbara Klepsch lends a hand during the grape harvest. Why she sees potential for Saxony in wine tourism.

According to Tourism Minister Barbara Klepsch, wine tourism is gaining importance in Saxony. Wine tourists account for approximately 3.1 million overnight stays and day trips annually, the ministry announced during a visit by the CDU politician to the vineyards of the Saxon Winegrowers’ Cooperative in Meissen. Klepsch participated in the grape harvest there.

Visitors spend just under 300 million euros annually in the wine region. The personal spending of wine tourists is higher than that of other travelers: Overnight guests spend an average of 11 percent more, while day visitors spend as much as 55 percent more. The Free State of Saxony is therefore placing a focus on Saxon cuisine as part of its Master Plan for Tourism, Klepsch announced.
