Lake Berzdorf in the Lusatian Lakeland near Görlitz is ready for shipping. The Saxony State Directorate announced that the Lausitzer und Mitteldeutsche Bergbau-Verwaltungsgesellschaft mbH (LMBV) has withdrawn its objections to the general order on the use of the water body. Only for nature conservation reasons there are some restrictions. Regina Kraushaar, President of the Saxony State Directorate, said that residents and users, especially recreational captains, can now prepare for the upcoming summer season.

Lake Berzdorf is about 960 hectares in size and was created in the residual hole of a former open pit lignite mine between 2002 and 2013. After discussions between the LDS and LMBV, the authority emphasized the priority of the remediation, which results from mining and water law obligations. The region will once again gain in attractiveness through the shipping clearance and tourism will also benefit.
