Four weeks after their birth, the two Red Pandas at Görlitz Zoo have undergone their first health check. The sex of the two cubs was also determined on this occasion. According to the zoo, they can look forward to a brother-sister pair.
Bear cubs are healthy and happy
"The two little bears weigh a fair amount - 540 and 537 grams - and appear to be healthy, happy and very chirpy," it said. Despite the current heat, they coped very well with the examination. Thanks to cool rooms and cool packs, everything was stress-free and calm.
During the examination, the animals were checked for parasites, wormed and microchipped. Of course, their sex was also determined. They were then returned to their familiar den.
Red pandas are at home in the Himalayas
Red pandas are native to the Himalayan region and neighboring areas. Their torso can grow up to a good 70 centimetres long, their tail up to half a meter. The Chinese name Hun-ho means "fire fox" and refers to the predominantly red coloration of the fur. They feed on leaves and fruit. Their population is highly endangered.
