It would have taken a miracle for ZFC Meuselwitz to knock the second-division side out of the cup competition. But that did not happen.

The cup hurdle of Karlsruher SC was too high for ZFC Meuselwitz. Despite a 0:5 (0:3) defeat, the Thuringian cup winners did not hide against the second division club and delivered a respectable performance for at least 20 minutes in the first half. The fact that the visitors were 2-0 up at this point thanks to goals from Fabian Schleusener (1st) and Nicolai Rapp (11th) did not detract from this. Schleusener (42), Lilian Egloff (52) and Christoph Kobald (56) scored the other goals for the favorites in front of 4,369 spectators.

Without even touching the ball, the hosts were already behind after just 18 seconds. A cross reached Schleuseneer, who - surrounded by three ZFC players - was able to successfully head in relatively unchallenged. The quick 0:2 was the result of a brilliant 30-meter shot that hit the ZFC goal unstoppably.

However, Meuselwitz rallied in the following minutes. From the 25th minute onwards, there was no discernible difference between the two classes. Instead, it was the Zipsendorfers who dominated the game and created three great chances through René Eckardt (27th/post), Andy Trübenbach (30th) and Florian Hansch (36th). It paid off that the opportunities were not taken, as Schleusener put the lid on the game in the first half.

Another two KSC goals

And the home side also made two big mistakes immediately after the break. First, goalkeeper Lukas Sedlak was disturbed during a clearance and the ball ended up in the goal. And after a corner, the ZFC backline failed to head the ball out of the danger zone. Kobald only had to push the ball over the line at the far post.

From then on, Baden took all the tempo out of the game and allowed Meuselwitz to play more of the game again. However, they once again failed to take advantage of the opportunities that presented themselves, meaning that ZFC remained without a goal in the third DFB Cup match in the club's history.

What remains is a six-figure sum, which the club does not intend to invest in the team. Instead, the area of the Bluechip Arena is to be spruced up and the club as a whole is to benefit from the footballers' performance.
