The BSV Sachsen Zwickau women's handball team have laid the foundations for staying in the Bundesliga. Coach Norman Rentsch's charges won the first game in the play-downs against TSV Bayer Leverkusen 27:18 (12:7) in their favor. Laura Szabo (8/4) and Kaho Nakayama (5) played the biggest part in the hosts' success. Johanna Andresen (5) and Pia Terfloth (4) scored the most goals for Leverkusen. The second leg to decide who stays in Germany's top division will take place in Leverkusen on May 14.
After an even start, the hosts pulled five goals ahead from 7:6 after 20 minutes and extended their lead to 20:12 by the 42nd minute. Zwickau were even ten goals ahead at 27:17 thanks to their outstanding goalkeeper Barbara Victoria Gyori (19 saves).
