After seven defeats in a row, SC DHfK Leipzig's handball team has had a taste of success in the Bundesliga. The team of coach Runar Sigtryggsson defeated HSG Wetzlar 30:18 (13:9) in front of their home crowd. In front of 4644 spectators, national player Franz Semper was the best scorer for SC DHfK, who moved up to twelfth place with 19:37 points. Alongside Semper, goalkeeper Kristian Saeveras stood out for the winners with 21 saves.
The hosts were slow to get into the game, but were able to rely on Saeveras from the outset, who saved all of the first five shots on goal. It took until the eighth minute for Vladimir Vranjes to get past the Norwegian goalkeeper for the first time. At that point, the home side led 2:1.
The opposing goalkeeper also shone
From the tenth minute onwards, Leipzig improved significantly in attack, playing with more variety and speed. As a result, they pulled 9:5 ahead in the 18th minute. Although the visitors took advantage of a six-minute drought by SC DHfK to close the gap to 8:9, they were then once again desperate against the outstanding Saeveras, who made 14 saves up to the break alone.
Although Anadin Suljakovic also made an excellent save at the other end, Leipzig developed more penetration at the back through the strong Semper and so deserved to lead at the break. The home side came out of the locker room with a lot of energy and quickly opened up a 20:13 gap (40'). Wetzlar's efforts to catch up were nipped in the bud by Leipzig's dominance and it continuously extended its lead to the end.
