The Niners Chemnitz basketball team is keeping up the pressure on leaders Bayern Munich. The charges of Head Coach Rodrigo Pastore won their home game against seventh-placed Telekom Baskets Bonn by 80:66 (37:33) on Saturday and consolidated second place in the German league with their 22nd win of the season. Jonas Richter (16), Kaza Kajami-Keane (14), Aher Uguak (11) and Wesley van Beck (10) played the biggest part in the win. Brian Fobbs (21), Noah Kirkwood (13) and Thomas Kennedy (10) scored the most points for the visitors.
The Saxons got off to a perfect start and were 35:22 ahead after 17 minutes. The home side, which had only reached the final of the Fiba Europe Cup on Wednesday, then seemed to run out of steam. Bonn closed the gap to 37:36 (21'), but was then never able to take the lead. The home side went into the final quarter with a 57:51 advantage and pulled 63:51 (32') to 74:59 (38'). The Saxons' dominance under the baskets was decisive for their victory. Chemnitz snapped up 46 rebounds, Bonn just 33. The Niners were thus also able to compensate for their poor free throw percentage. Only eleven of the 19 attempts landed in Bonn's basket.
