No goals to start the season: Aue draw against Rostock

FC Erzgebirge Aue still have to wait for a home win against FC Hansa Rostock. The two traditional teams drew goalless at the start of the 3rd Football League season. In front of 14,800 spectators, the Saxons were the dominant team but failed to take their chances.

Even a penalty did not find its way into the goal. Hansa goalkeeper Benjamin Uphoff (75) defused a ball from Marvin Stefaniak that was not at all out of place. It was the best chance of all, meaning Hansa were able to return home from the Erzgebirge unscathed after 14 years.

Both coaches relied on their new signings. Aue had six players on the pitch who were signed during the summer break. Hansa also had half a dozen who made their competitive debuts right from the start.

Racy first half

In a fast-paced game, both teams had a number of chances in the first half. Aue were the more active team, but failed to take their chances. They repeatedly aimed too centrally at the Hansa goal, meaning that either goalkeeper Uphoff was able to get a hand to the ball or it was blocked in front of him.

Rightly good chances also came Rostock's way. The agile Maximilian Krauß in particular repeatedly put the Aue defence under pressure. Nico Neidhardt failed with a double chance against Erik Weinhauer and Martin Männel (28'), Krauß himself did not hit the ball properly after 39 minutes.

Second half only exciting in the final phase

After the break, the Baltic city became more dangerous going forward, but the teams initially neutralized each other more and more. It only became more intense in both penalty areas after the missed penalty. Stefaniak (78') slid past a ball, while substitute Christian Kinsombi (86') missed the Auer goal from a free position. And in stoppage time, Aue's Mika Clausen wasted a great opportunity for a lucky punch after a defensive error.
