Cottbus back in the promotion battle

Energie Cottbus have renewed hope in the race for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. After three games without a win in the 3rd division, coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz's team won 3:0 (2:0) at relegation-threatened TSV Havelse. There were even more goals in it. "It's unbelievable that the final score is only 0:3. I knew that if the team stays focused and doesn't get preoccupied with other issues, it will get back on track," said coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz on MagentaSport. Second place is now within reach again: "In the end, we want to be second. That can change week by week. The important thing is that we perform consistently in the last few games. The team can do that. If they remain unperturbed, they'll be able to bring it home."

Axel Borgmann (20th minute) and Tolcay Cigerci (23rd) scored for the favorites from Lausitz before the break. Moritz Hannemann (57) followed up in the second half. Cottbus put in an extremely dominant performance and should have gone into the break with a clearer lead. Borgmann and Erik Engelhardt in particular missed great chances - also because Norman Quindt in the hosts' goal made a strong save. Havelse got into the game better after around half an hour, but failed twice against Energie keeper Marius Funk. The fact that Cottbus then missed several top-class chances ultimately played no decisive role. Wollitz was nevertheless furious on the touchline. After all, the match against 1860 Munich will now be followed by landmark duels with leaders VfL Osnabrück and fellow rivals Rot-Weiss Essen.

Hansa suffer a setback at home

FC Hansa Rostock suffered a serious setback in the race for promotion to Bundesliga 2. The third division club lost its home match against Viktoria Köln 2:3 (0:2). Leonhard Münst (29th minute), David Otto (41st) and Yannick Tonye (54th) scored for the visitors from the cathedral city. David Hummel (81st) and Andreas Voglsammer (90.+4) scored for the Hanseatic side.

The team of coach Daniel Brinkmann, who had not lost in five games, made their own mistakes before Cologne conceded. The 0:1 was preceded by a slip-up in the build-up and the 0:2 was caused by a lack of control in their own penalty area. The hosts only woke up late on and had good opportunities, including through Adrien Lebeau (68). The goals from Hummer and Voglsammer came too late to turn the game around. "You can never lose that game. We led the duels for both goals, but didn't win them. We're already on the ball, but then we have to make a move. It's super annoying that we didn't manage to do that," said coach Brinkmann. Now the top match in Verl is coming up on Wednesday: "The pressure is just higher now. We almost have to win in Verl," he said.

Aue just "embarrassing" - sporting lead gone

Erzgebirge Aue suffered a 3:5 (1:4) home debacle against TSG Hoffenheim II. 24 hours later, the still winless head coach Christoph Dabrowski was dismissed. Sporting director Michael Tarnat, who was appointed on January 1, took responsibility for hiring the coach at the beginning of February and also resigned from his post on Easter Sunday due to differences of opinion regarding the sporting direction.

Head of youth development Khvicha Shubitidze and Enrico Kern will take over the team for the time being. The new head scout Steffen Ziffert is now responsible for squad planning together with sporting director Jens Haustein and Shubitidze.

Aue's double goalscorer Marcel Bär spoke plainly after the defeat: "I feel like I'm standing here week after week saying the same shit. It's embarrassing when the opposing team scores goals and your own fans cheer." Dabrowski was speechless and denied the team's quality: "I'm lost for words. The first quarter of an hour has nothing to do with the right to play third division soccer."

Aue's chances of victory were over after just a few minutes, as Deniz Zeitler (6th minute), Luka Duric (11th) and Paul Hennrich (15th) made Hoffenheim's lightning start perfect. As if the three goals conceded were not punishment enough, Jamilu Collins (19) was also shown the red card after an emergency brake. Some Aue fans left the stadium after just a quarter of an hour. They not only missed Marcel Bär's brace (40th/56th) and Ricky Bornschein's goal (85th), but also the other TSG goals from Duric (29th) and Zeitler (51st).
