Mia and Emil were the most popular first names for babies in Saxony in 2024. This was announced by the Society for the German Language (GfdS) in Wiesbaden. Emma and Oskar came in second place and Frida and Mateo in third place, with several spellings taken into account. In 2023, Hanna and Emil were in first place in the state. Nationwide, the names Sophia and Noah continued to lead the ranking in 2024.
The German Language Society has been publishing this overview since 1977. It is based on data from around 750 registry offices, which submitted a total of almost 900,000 name entries to the society. In this way, almost 92 percent of all first names given in Germany in 2024 were recorded, the society announced.
