At its party conference in Leipzig, the Saxon Left Party has set conditions for approval of the 2025/2026 double budget. The Left Party faction should only make a resolution in the state parliament possible if the debt brake is also relaxed in the Free State, the Left Party is given a right of co-decision in the distribution of funds from the federal special fund and the draft budget is significantly improved in several areas. A majority of delegates voted in favor of a corresponding motion.
"Over the next few days, I want our CDU members of parliament to take every stupidly spent euro out of the cross and put it into care, health, democracy and cultural projects, social housing and infrastructure," said Deputy Chairman Markus Pohle when introducing the motion. When it comes to taking on debt, the CDU needs to straighten itself out. At the same time, Pohle warned against remaining in provisional budget management instead of adopting a budget, as many projects would then be threatened with closure due to a lack of funding.
The minority government of the CDU and SPD submitted its draft for the 2025/26 double budget to the state parliament at the beginning of April. The coalition is ten votes short of a majority in parliament. It is therefore reliant on support from the opposition. The Budget and Finance Committee is negotiating this in its current closed session. The vote in parliament is scheduled for later this month.
