Thousands of positions will be filled in the upcoming local elections in Brandenburg this year. In the election, "over 7,000 honorary representatives will be elected to the 14 district councils and 413 city councils and municipal councils", explained state election director Herbert Trimbach on Friday. In addition, there are the members of the local councils. For the four independent cities, 194 city councillors are being sought and 744 seats are to be filled in the district assemblies. Around 270 honorary mayoral posts need to be filled, as well as numerous local councilors.

Around 2.1 million citizens in Brandenburg are being called to vote in the European and local elections on 9 June and the state elections on 22 September.
