Trains are to travel much faster between Leipzig and Dresden in future - the railroad has now completed an important part of the construction work for this. Between Zeithain and Leckwitz, both tracks have been modernized, level crossings have been replaced by bridges and around 6.5 kilometers of noise barriers have been built, the railroad announced. In future, trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour. Two stops have also been modernized.
The section is part of the 117-kilometre expansion line between Leipzig and Dresden. In future, trains will connect the two cities in less than an hour instead of an hour and a half. However, there is still a lot of work to be done: for example, the junction structure in Dresden is currently still under construction. And the Riesa junction will not be modernized until 2029, according to the company.
