In the transfer poker for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, Newcastle United have now submitted their first official offer, according to the media. The English Premier League club is said to have offered 75 million euros plus five million euros in bonuses, as reported by the British broadcaster Sky Sports News and the portal "The Athletic". The 22-year-old is considered the ideal solution for the striker and, at over 80 million euros, would be the most expensive transfer in the club's history.
In addition, it was reported that Manchester United could now also enter the poker game with their own offer for the Slovenian international. According to the report, Sesko is open to both options, but Newcastle play in the Champions League, while Manchester missed out on a place in an international competition after a disastrous season.
Transfer seemed almost certain
At the beginning of July, it appeared that Sesko's transfer to Arsenal FC, which was already at an advanced stage, would soon be finalized. However, the Gunners then signed the Swedish goalscorer Viktor Gyökeres.
Sesko is expected to fetch at least 80 million euros if sold. According to reports, RB are even willing to pay a little more for their current top star, who only extended his contract until June 30, 2029 last summer. Leipzig signed Sesko from Salzburg for €24 million in 2023.
Xavi also set to leave
Sesko was not in the squad for Saxony's friendly against Atalanta Bergamo on Saturday, nor was Xavi Simons (22). The Dutch international had already announced in May that he wanted to leave RB this summer. His goal is also the Premier League with Chelsea FC. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had already reported two weeks ago that Chelsea wanted to start negotiations with Leipzig. Xavi's advisor, his brother Faustino, is said to have previously been in contact with the club's world champion.
Simons was signed permanently by the Saxons at the end of January after being loaned out by Paris Saint-Germain in 2023. RB paid a transfer fee of 50 million euros, plus possible bonus payments.
