Dennis Duah will play for FC Energie Cottbus in the 3rd Football League season starting on Saturday. The defender comes on loan from the promoted second division side and is expected to develop under Energie coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz. Duah, who signed for Dynamo from Hamburger SV last season, never played a single minute in the third division.
Wollitz, on the other hand, raves about the new defensive man and is even considering putting him straight into the starting line-up for the game against 1. FC Saarbrücken on Saturday (14:00/MagentaSport). "He has incredible speed, 35 kilometers per hour. We've never had that in defense before," said the coach, who was able to observe Duah in training for a total of five weeks.
Wollitz appeals to the team
The team should start collecting points against relegation against Saarbrücken. "I expect passion, I expect players who see Energie Cottbus and not just themselves. I expect players who are grateful and humble to be allowed to start on Saturday," emphasized Wollitz.
Last season, it looked for a long time as if Energie could march straight through to the second division. In the end, they fell just short. Now the Brandenburgers are likely to face a more difficult season. For many, Energie is a relegation candidate because they have players who do not have a great CV and have not played consistently at this level for many years, said the coach.
"We need maturity with everything that goes with it: joy, greed, love, conviction and courage to play a successful season. And a successful season is when Energie Cottbus manage to stay in the league and continue to develop their structures in such a way that they end up being a professional club," said Wollitz.
