SC Magdeburg can probably count on backcourt ace Gisli Kristjansson for the Final Four of the Handball Champions League after all. "There is a chance that he will be in the squad," said SCM coach Bennet Wiegert with a view to the semi-final against defending champions FC Barcelona on Saturday (18:00/Dyn/DAZN/DF1) in Cologne.
Kristjansson suffered a shoulder injury in the Bundesliga game at TBV Lemgo at the beginning of June and missed Magdeburg's remaining two games of the season. Now the 25-year-old international from Iceland is apparently on the verge of a comeback after a speedy recovery.

However, Wiegert does not want to take any health risks. "Gisli hasn't had any training, which makes it difficult. He needs time. Maybe it will be enough for a few minutes. We'll see," said the 43-year-old. But he is "very happy that he is here and that we have the opportunity to bring him into the tournament."
In Magdeburg's triumph in the premier class two years ago, Kristjansson caused a sensation when he dislocated his shoulder in the semi-final win against Barcelona and led his team to victory against Kielce a day later despite the injury in the final.
