In the Capital of Culture, the city center was transformed into a ballet studio. It didn't quite work out with the largest ballet class in the world. Nevertheless, the organizers are satisfied.

Hundreds of people gathered to dance in the city center of the cultural capital Chemnitz for a Guinness World Record attempt. "The atmosphere was brilliant, the people inspired," said festival and ballet director Sabrina Sadowska. The aim was to bring the largest and longest dancing ballet class in the world to the streets - but this was only partially successful. Around 1,050 people came to dance together in the open air. According to Sadowska, it would have taken 1,600 people to break the current world record. However, they danced for 47 minutes. According to Sadowska, this broke the previous record. Confirmation from Guinness World Records has reportedly been received.

The organizer was delighted: from girls in tutus to senior citizens, people danced together to the live music of a pianist and performed simple ballet exercises. "We are super happy."

The event took place as part of the international festival for contemporary dance. Instead of classical ballet bars, construction fences and barriers were used for dancing. In the spirit of the European Capital of Culture, the world record attempt stood for active participation, creative community and the unifying power of art, it was said.
