A new center for digital research is being built at Dresden University of Technology. The cornerstone for the Lehmann Center office building has now been laid. In the future, up to 600 employees will work there on issues related to digital transformation.
The new building is being constructed south of Nöthnitzer Straße, right next to the Lehmann Center’s data center. The Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS) at TU Dresden will be the facility’s primary user. There, researchers will focus on areas such as high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and digital infrastructure. The European Union and the Free State of Saxony are investing approximately 101 million euros in the project.
Investment in the Digital Future
TUD Rector Prof. Ursula M. Staudinger sees the new building as much more than just a construction project. “We thank the EU and the Free State of Saxony, which are investing not only in a building, but in talent, cutting-edge research, and the ability to translate scientific findings into societal benefits.”
At CIDS, researchers from various disciplines are working on the foundations of tomorrow’s digital world. As a university of excellence and a hub for high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, TU Dresden is already one of the most important centers of digital research in Germany. The new building is intended to provide more space and better conditions for this work in the future.
