A rare spectacle at Leipzig Botanical Garden: the flowers of a very special plant can be seen for one night only.

The Botanical Garden in Leipzig is once again hosting a special spectacle from Tuesday evening: the flowering of the Queen of the Night. According to the institution, more than 20 flowers will open on several plants. For this reason, the greenhouses will be open to visitors from 7.30 pm to 10.30 pm.

The Queen of the Night (Selenicereus grandiflorus) belongs to the cactus family. Its white-yellowish flowers can grow up to 30 centimetres in size. According to botanists, the special feature is that each flower only opens for one night.
