After the blockade action by animal activists in front of the Sachsenmilch dairy in Leppersdorf last Friday, three of those involved are to be brought to court in accelerated proceedings. According to the police, the suspects, aged 23, 24 and 33, are accused of coercion. The public prosecutor's office and police want to ensure that any punishment is carried out as quickly as possible.
According to the statement, the three suspects occupied the trailer of a milk truck at the beginning of the protest and thus - together with a bus that was blocked at the same time - prevented it from continuing its journey. According to the police, a total of 41 people took part in the unregistered gathering in the district of Bautzen.
Action was directed against factory farming
The activists from the "Animal Rebellion" group had protested against factory farming with the action. They accused the company of sourcing milk from year-round tethered farming and thus promoting animal suffering. According to the police, they broke up the blockade in a communicative manner. Several people had previously stuck to the access road or climbed onto vehicles. The personal details of 14 of those involved were recorded. In addition, several criminal charges were filed for coercion.
Sachsenmilch Leppersdorf GmbH in Leppersdorf has around 3,000 employees and describes itself as one of the most modern milk processing plants in Europe. Products such as milk, butter, yogurt and cheese are made from the milk supplied - around 1.7 billion kilograms annually, according to the company itself.
