Following the classification of the federal AfD as definitely right-wing extremist, the SPD leader in Saxony has called on the federal government to take action. The new federal government is now called upon to evaluate the report by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) and draw the right conclusions from it, explained co-state leader Henning Homann.
The entire AfD is at war with our free democratic basic order with its ethnic-descendant understanding of the people, Homann emphasized. "Their ideology of inequality and constant agitation against migrants and minorities, their distortion of history and their actions against our democratic and social principles endanger the Federal Republic of Germany."
In the view of the Saxon Left Party leader, the last reservations about initiating a ban procedure at the Federal Constitutional Court have now been dispelled. "The Bundestag, federal government and Bundesrat are called upon to examine and act swiftly. I firmly assume that the state of Saxony will support this goal by collecting evidence," said Susanne Schaper.
For the Greens in the Free State, the AfD is "an accelerant for hatred, agitation and anti-democratic activities", they said in a statement. "It is clear to us that anyone who wants to protect our democracy must resolutely oppose the AfD - with attitude, courage and a clear 'no' to any form of cooperation at all levels," emphasized state chairwoman Marie Müser.
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution had previously classified the AfD as definitely right-wing extremist. In three eastern German states - Saxony, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt - the respective state association was already classified as confirmed right-wing extremist.
