A total of 81 passenger aircraft will take off from Leipzig/Halle and Dresden Airports at the weekend to mark the start of the summer vacations in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. According to Mitteldeutsche Flughafen AG, 55 flights are scheduled for Leipzig/Halle Airport and 26 for Dresden Airport. The airport operator is expecting up to 24,500 passengers at both airports on the first vacation weekend.
Holiday flights take off
There are 32 vacation flights planned from Leipzig/Halle alone - for example to Antalya (Turkey), Palma de Mallorca (Spain), Hurghada (Egypt) and Heraklion (Greece). The largest local vacation airline is Marabu with 14 departures, followed by Sun Express, Condor and Freebird Airlines. There are also 13 scheduled flights, including ten to Frankfurt.
Twelve vacation flights and 14 scheduled flights are on the schedule in Dresden. Connections to Antalya, Majorca and the Greek island of Rhodes are particularly popular. Lufthansa has the most flights from Dresden at the start of the vacation season. The airline connects the region with its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich.
Parking space bottlenecks expected - online booking recommended
Due to high demand, the airport operator advises people to book parking spaces online early, especially in Leipzig/Halle.
