After an outbreak of bird flu at Chemnitz Zoo, the protective measures are now being lifted again. According to the city, visitors will have access to all animals again from Thursday. The retests of all bird species were negative.
Avian influenza was the cause of the protective measures
At the beginning of February, dead chickens were found at the zoo's duck pond. As a result, avian influenza was detected in 51 of 67 birds in the goose and duck pond. The entire flock of 286 birds was killed as a precautionary measure.
Access to the zoo was also restricted and prices reduced. In the meantime, barriers and anti-epidemic mats at the entrances are being removed one by one so that visitors will have unrestricted access again from March 5.
