Saxony's panel doctors are now led by a man from Leipzig. His predecessor had to leave after making controversial statements.

Following the dismissal of his predecessor, Stefan Windau has taken up his position as the new Chairman of the Board of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians in Saxony (KVS). "In my new role, I will resolutely stand up for the interests of Saxony's panel doctors and psychotherapists at all political levels," said the Leipzig-based specialist in internal medicine in a statement.

For 20 years, Windau was Chairman of the Assembly of Representatives, which elected him as the new KV Chairman in May. He takes over from Klaus Heckemann, who triggered a wave of criticism with a controversial editorial on the subject of human genetics. The KVS relieved Heckemann of his post in September last year. He was temporarily succeeded by Sylvia Krug, Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors. Windau had said at the time that a fresh start was unavoidable.
