During checks on the occasion of the nationwide road safety campaign "sicher.mobil.leben" (safe.mobile.live), the police in Saxony detected 2895 violations. Officers checked 5193 road users statewide, 501 of whom were cyclists, the Interior Ministry announced Wednesday. During the action day last Tuesday, 467 officers at 175 checkpoints had mainly red light violations, distraction, lack of consideration, lack of safe distance, alcohol and drugs, as well as speeding, overtaking and seat belt violations, the lighting systems, disregard for traffic signs and wrong turns in view.

The cross-state road safety campaign "sicher.mobil.leben" has been around since 2018. This year, it was mainly about the issue of consideration, it said. "In every situation on the road, mutual consideration is crucial to avoid dangers and prevent accidents," said state police chief Jörg Kubiessa, according to a statement.

Last year, there were 97,061 traffic accidents in Saxony. Excessive speed, right-of-way violations, insufficient safety distance or alcohol and drugs were among the main causes.
