Despite a season without international competition, David Raum sees his future at RB Leipzig. "I said that it could be an opportunity to help shape a new beginning in my fourth season at RB Leipzig. That I take on even more leadership in the team and that I help lead the return to old strength," the German international told the "Fränkischer Tag". That's why "a transfer is not on the table right now".
For the first time since their promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016, Leipzig have missed out on an international competition. There has been speculation surrounding Raum, who is still tied to the Saxons until 2027, with clubs from England reportedly keeping tabs on him according to media reports. While a sale was never on the table for RB, Raum has not yet made a clear commitment. The left-back is said to have an exit clause of 50 million euros in his contract.
Changes inevitable
The past season was the "worst case" for Raum. "Especially for me as a player. I moved to Leipzig with the ambition of competing at the highest level," said the 27-year-old and called for a rethink: "It's inevitable that we have to make changes. There's no way we can continue the way things have been this season."
At the moment, the transition is progressing rather slowly. Leipzig have not yet found a new coach to replace Marco Rose, who left the club in March. Interim coach Zsolt Löw has returned to the team of Jürgen Klopp, global head of soccer at Red Bull.
Raum moved from Hoffenheim to Leipzig in the summer of 2022 for €26 million. After a weak first year, the attacking defender steadily gained a foothold and is now undisputed. Alongside Xaver Schlager and Willi Orban, Raum is also one of the few mentality players in the Saxony squad.
