1. FC Magdeburg lost its last test match a week before the start of the second division. In front of 5,640 spectators, FCM lost 3:4 (1:1) against Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg. Martijn Kaars (43), Magnus Baars (49) and Falko Michel (78) scored for FCM. Dzenan Pejcinovic (5th and 85th), Vaclav Cerny (63rd) and Jan Bürger (71st) were successful for the Wolves.
A misplaced pass in their own penalty area led to FCM conceding an early goal. Magdeburg did not look solid defensively and, as against Essen, conceded too many goals. FCM lacked ideas in attack for a long time and only improved their attacking play after the break. However, the second-division club were unable to hold on to their interim lead - youngster Baars scored to make it 2:1.
Magdeburg must get the poor results out of their heads
By the start of the season, the Elbe club must shake off the poor results in preparation - three defeats, one draw and two wins. On August 3 (13:30/Sky), they will host Eintracht Braunschweig for the league opener.
