Coach Ole Werner of Bundesliga club RB Leipzig is still cautious just three weeks before the first competitive match. Although his team worked intensively at the training camp in Donaueschingen, "the real tests are still to come", said Werner with regard to the upcoming test match against Atalanta Bergamo on Saturday in the Red Bull Arena (3.00 pm). "We'll know a bit more after the game against Bergamo."
During the training camp, Werner placed particular emphasis on counter-pressing, switching and ball possession. The approach play in defense was also further strengthened. Despite the 7:0 win against FC Toulouse, the French side also created some easy chances themselves.
New arrivals with "incredible quality"
The coach was particularly pleased with the new arrivals, who Werner described as a "gain": "They make a very, very good impression, have already found their feet and know how our processes work. They are tactically advanced and bring incredible quality. I think we've found the type of players we were looking for. They will make our team stronger."
However, the team needs to find itself and show responsibility within the team. So far, Werner has seen good teamwork in the few weeks of preparation, which he hopes will also be effective in difficult times: "It will be important to see how the group reacts when things don't go so well. That's also part of development."
