Chemnitz zoo closes due to suspected bird flu

Chemnitz Zoo will remain closed on Thursday due to a suspected case of bird flu. This was announced by the city. Further information will follow in the course of the day, it said.

Avian influenza, colloquially known as bird flu, is an infectious disease caused by viruses. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), mammals can also become infected if they have had contact with infected birds or their excrement. No cases of infected humans have yet been reported in Germany.
