"Kirmesliga": all-round attack from Energie coach Wollitz

Once again, the coach of Energie Cottbus has sharply criticized the nature of the 3rd division. The coach also believes that the DFB should create a different system for the reallocation of television funds.

In the midst of the promotion race, coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz has fiercely denounced the nature of the third soccer league. "There are many colleagues who say it's a funfair league because there's no consistency. But we're not being listened to," said the 60-year-old coach of Energie Cottbus at the press conference ahead of Sunday's top match in Osnabrück (1.30pm/MagentaSport), "which is why there should be a coaches' conference."

In view of the numerous wrong decisions by referees and their assistants, Wollitz is also in favor of the introduction of video evidence in the third division, "even if I don't know whether it will make it fairer." But some conspicuous wrong decisions could be recognized with the VAR. "This is a professional league. And mistakes have been made that simply shouldn't happen," said Wollitz.

Once again, the coach took the referees out of the firing line. "The referee observers are crucial because they expect everything from the referees," said Wollitz. Due to the pressure, the referee cannot always react correctly in tricky situations, according to the coach.

TV money: "Minimum is double"

Wollitz is also calling for a different bonus system when the TV rights are re-tendered from the 2027/2028 season. The TV money should be staggered depending on the final position: "It creates a different situation if I end up two places higher and then receive more TV money. That makes the competition more interesting."

The TV money itself would have to be increased. "The minimum is double," says Wollitz, who gives the current broadcaster MagentaSport a good report card.

Wollitz also has his opinion on the promotion and relegation regulations and is calling for promotion rights for every regional league champion. So far, only three title winners have the right to promotion, while two champions have to fight for the last place in a relegation play-off. "From my point of view, there can only be this fairness with 22 clubs, making five relegated and five promoted. Then you have four more games and more can be promoted."
