The Willkommenszentrum Leipzig, in collaboration with the State Office for Schools and Education and the Amt für Schule, invites you to a special and free online event. On Tuesday, May 27, from 3 p.m., the multilingual event "Welcome to School" will focus on integration and support for parents whose children are starting school this year and whose native language is not German.
In the federal state of Saxony, children and young people under the age of 18 have both the right and obligation to attend school, regardless of their residence status. With this event, the city of Leipzig and its partners would like to warmly welcome the new pupils and provide parents with helpful information to ensure a successful start to the school year.
One of the speakers at the event is Dr. Christine Mäkert, the Coordinator for Migration and Integration at the Landesamt für Schule und Bildung in Leipzig. She will provide information about the school integration process that children with a non-German language of origin go through and show parents where they can obtain further information material on this topic.
Another important part of the event revolves around the topic of after-school care and all-day programs. Romy Turuta and Corinna Mackscheidt from the Office for Schools will explain key questions: What is after-school care? How does registration work and what fees are charged? What are the childcare times and what is on offer at the after-school care center? What does an all-day program (GTA) mean? How does registration and the obligation to participate work?
The event will be held in several languages one after the other in order to reach as broad a target group as possible: German (15:00 - 16:00), Arabic (16:00 - 17:00), Spanish (17:00 - 18:00), Ukrainian (18:00 - 19:00) and Romanian (19:00 - 20:00).
Registration by email to the Leipzig Welcome Center at willkommenszentrum@leipzig.de by 26 May is required. After registration, participants will receive the online access link. It should be noted that these are not individual consultations.
Further information on the event can be found on the website www.leipzig.de/willkommenszentrum.
