The first wave of travelers is rolling into Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia - still without chaos. But soon the big vacation traffic threatens with long waiting times on the highways.

The highways in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia are expected to be a little busier at the start of the vacations this Saturday. A slight increase in traffic is already expected on Friday, according to Autobahn GmbH. The first weekend in July, however, should be noticeably busier on the highways.

According to Autobahn GmbH, the routes to the south (A7, A9) and to the North Sea and Baltic Sea (A7, A24) will be particularly affected by travel traffic. The federally owned company expects the first major wave of travelers on the weekend of July 5 to 7, when other federal states such as Hesse, Lower Saxony and Rhineland-Palatinate also start their summer vacations. The busiest day is expected to be Saturday, July 5.

Interactive congestion risk map

Autobahn GmbH refers to an interactive congestion risk map that shows particularly congested stretches of road. In Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, these include construction sections on the A4 between Erfurt, Jena and Dresden and on the A9.

Drivers are advised to start well rested, plan sufficient breaks and find out about roadworks in advance. They are also reminded to form a rescue lane in traffic jams. Autobahn GmbH offers up-to-date information on the traffic situation and a free app online.
