The Baden-Württemberg Classics will be held at the ICC Dresden on April 18 and 19, 2026: around 40 wineries will present around 600 wines, sparkling wines and fine brandies. Curated according to origin and grape variety; trend themes are non-alcoholic and lighter wines as well as wine walks.

On April 18 and 19, the "Baden-Württemberg Classics" wine fair will once again make a stop in Dresden. For the 13th time, the event will bring together winegrowers from the southwest with a Saxon audience - a format that deliberately focuses on direct exchange: tasting, comparing, talking, ordering directly from the producer. Around 40 wineries and cooperatives will present around 600 wines, sparkling wines and fine brandies at the International Congress Center. The range is complemented by two Saxon wineries - Weingut Lehmann from Diesbar-Seußlitz and Weinmanufaktur Meißen.

The approach of the trade fair is clearly curated: The focus is on origin, grape variety and ageing, not just the finished product in the glass. Regions such as Baden and Württemberg in particular, whose vineyards are often located on labor-intensive slopes and steep slopes, can be explored in a differentiated way in this way. The organizer is the Württemberg Wine Institute, which has been positioning the trade fair as a platform for German wine for years - combined with a clear commitment to moderate consumption and the strengthening of local origins. "Still only about every second glass of wine drunk in Germany comes from domestic production," lamented Horst Reuschle from the organizer Weininstitut Württemberg.

The fact that the style and range of wines on offer are changing is also evident in Dresden. Non-alcoholic wines and sparkling wines are no longer a marginal topic, but a growing segment. Current market data shows significant growth in sales and turnover, and this trend is also visible at the trade fair: a special selection of alcohol-free products will be available for tasting. At the same time, wines with a reduced alcohol content are gaining in importance - not least as an accompaniment for the warmer months of the year.

German red wines can also keep up well

A preview of the upcoming delicacies was provided at the press conference in the run-up to the trade fair in the bistro of Gräfs Wein & fein (recently awarded the title of best wine bar in Germany). Armin Imgraben, CEO of Winzergenossenschaft Britzingen, together with the 60th Württemberg Wine Queen Natalie Schäftler, presented four sparkling wines - including two non-alcoholic ones - and five wines each from Baden and Württemberg for the Hohenlohe Fürstenfass winery. Two wines per course from each of the two wine-growing regions showed the variety of ways in which you can accompany your meal with suitable wines. Sometimes it can be a Pinot Blanc from the 3-liter bag-in-box (as with the starter selection of rillettes, humus, salami and cornichons), which is in no way inferior to the estate wine from the bottle,  but sometimes a hand-selected great red wine like the 22 Lemberger Royal from the barrique of the Fürstenfass Hohenlohe or the 21 Muggardt Spätburgunder from Britzingen is also suitable: Red wines from Germany can now hold their own!

During the days of the fair itself, this diversity will be enhanced by so-called "winewalks". Several times a day, wine royalty from Baden and Württemberg will lead small groups around the stands, explaining style profiles, grape varieties and current trends. The focus is particularly on fresh, seasonal wines - exactly what is in demand in spring and summer.

In addition to pure tasting, the "Baden-Württemberg Classics" also sees itself as a tourist business card. Regions such as Markgräflerland and Württemberg will be presenting themselves as well as specialized wine tour providers.
