Era ends: Geissler steps down as MBC managing director

Martin Geissler will step down as Managing Director of the German Basketball League club Syntainics MBC on December 31 at the latest. The 40-year-old informed the advisory board of the German cup winners of this decision. This marks the end of a 17-year era at Mitteldeutscher BC. Geissler will be looking for a new professional challenge.

The family man has been Managing Director since 2008 and Managing Partner of the sponsoring company MBM GmbH since 2016. In this role, he is responsible for the areas of sport (signing coaches and players), marketing as well as league and association work. Their shared history goes back much further: he took over the club's press work in 2002 and became team manager two years later.

His era included the ProA championships and Bundesliga promotions in 2009, 2012 and 2017, as well as third place in the women's Bundesliga Toyota DBBL. The crowning highlight was last season with the organization of the biggest national basketball event, the BBL Cup Final4, and the associated first national title win as well as reaching the playoffs for the German championship for the first time in 24 years.
