Before a possible appointment of Max Eberl as sporting director, FC Bayern Munich still has to reach an agreement with RB Leipzig. According to dpa information, the record champions had not received a request from the Saxons to release the manager from his contract by Monday morning. The cup winners are demanding a transfer fee of around five million euros for the 50-year-old. RB had transferred this sum to his former club Mönchengladbach. According to reports, Eberl's contract runs until 2026.
On Monday, Sky reported that Eberl was on the verge of a move to his boyhood club in Munich and would start work at Säbener Straße during the second half of the season. A final decision on this personnel matter can only be made at the next supervisory board meeting at the end of February, although this is considered a formality.
Leipzig parted ways with Eberl at the end of September shortly before the top match against FC Bayern. According to the RB bosses, the reason for this was the official's lack of commitment to Leipzig. Last summer, Eberl had made some remarkable transfers for Leipzig. Among others, the current regulars Xavi Simons, Lois Openda, Castello Lukeba and Christoph Baumgartner were signed.
At the RB training camp ten days ago, RB board member Johann Plenge explained that the contract with Eberl had not yet been terminated. "The moment Bayern pick up the phone, we will talk about how to change that," said Plenge.
At the moment, Rouven Schröder, who was brought in by Eberl, has sole responsibility as sporting director in Leipzig. The club is satisfied with his work, but this is not intended to be a permanent solution. "Our advantage is that we're not in a hurry, we're not driven, we have plenty of time to discuss things," said Plenge. Internally, however, no deadline has been set at Cottaweg for when a personnel reinforcement should start work.
