Chemnitz is making a name for itself with an unusual dance project: "Odyssey in C" leads through the city in 18 stations - from morning to night.

Chemnitz is becoming a large ballet stage: this Thursday (June 26), "Odyssey in C", a dance journey of discovery across the city, celebrates its premiere. International ballet companies will present their choreographies at 18 stations. It starts at 8 a.m. at the Markersdorfer Oase and the Thiele butcher's shop on Sonnenberg, with the finale beginning at 10 p.m. in the opera house. In between, there will be stops at the castle cemetery, the municipal swimming pool, the university library, the Brühl, the Schlossteichinsel and the Karl Marx Monument.

Inspired by the novel of the century "Ulysses"

The project as part of the "Tanz Moderne Tanz" festival is part of Chemnitz's program as European Capital of Culture 2025 and is inspired by James Joyce's novel of the century "Ulysses". The companies have developed pieces of 20 to 30 minutes each for the individual stations. The aim is not only to take the audience to places that are often overlooked, but also to introduce them to the world of contemporary dance in Europe, according to the City of Chemnitz Municipal Theatres.

The audience can follow the events for a whole day or in stages over several days. There will also be further performances until Sunday (June 29). Admission is free except for the chapters in the opera house.
