Bombastus-Werke in Freital near Dresden plans to expand its site in the medium term and is investing in new machinery and technology.

Bombastus-Werke in Freital near Dresden plans to expand its site in the medium term. On Tuesday, the natural remedies manufacturer announced the relocation of its ointment and tablet production to a new building. A seven-figure sum is to be invested in new machinery and modern ventilation and air-conditioning technology, it said. Investments in photovoltaics are planned for the near future. "In the future, we want to further reduce the proportion of manual work," explained CEO Markus Kunze. "This is because demographic developments also mean that it is becoming increasingly challenging to find employees and trainees at the Freital site." Contrary to the general trend, however, Bombastus intends to continue producing in Freital in the future.

Bombastus-Werke is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year. According to the company, around 25 million euros have been invested in the Freital site since 1989, two large production and warehouse buildings and an additional special laboratory have been built and the machinery has been gradually modernized. Initially, the company manufactured cosmetic products for oral, dental, hair and skin care. As early as 1906, the company switched to industrial production. In 1990, the company was reprivatized and founded as Bombastus-Werke GmbH. The medium-sized company has been a public limited company since summer 2000. Since then, turnover has more than doubled. According to the company, there are currently 155 employees, including eight trainees in the professions of pharmaceutical technician, laboratory technician, warehouse logistics technician and mechatronics technician. The product range currently comprises more than 200 products. These mainly include ready-to-use medicines and cosmetics, medicinal, fruit and food teas, homeopathic and biochemical preparations as well as essential and base oils. The heart of the business is the cultivation and processing of sage. The products are sold almost exclusively through pharmacies, a factory outlet in Freital and the company's own online store. Tea production accounts for around half of sales.
